Freeman Capital for a Day Postponed Due to Severe Weather Forecast

PIERRE, S.D. – Freeman Capital for a Day, originally scheduled for Thursday, April 10, will be postponed until June 3, due to a major storm system that is expected to impact major portions of South Dakota on Thursday and Friday.

“We were all very excited to visit Freeman tomorrow, but must make safety a priority,” said Governor Mike Rounds. “We don’t encourage South Dakotans to travel in severe weather, and won’t risk having Freeman area families and friends, as well as state government employees, traveling in unsafe conditions. We understand the tremendous amount of time and effort that has been spent preparing for this day. We are very grateful to the citizens of Freeman.”

“If there’s a bright side to this, Freeman will hold the distinct title of being the only community declared Capital for a Day twice in one year,” the governor added.
