Casual Friday Fund Helps Bring CoreyHome
PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Mike Rounds today announced a donation from state employees to the Bringing Sgt. Corey Briest Home Fund in the amount of $10,350. The money was raised through the Casual Fridays program.
“Corey’s sacrifice in service to our country touches us all. We want to make sure he knows he’s not forgotten,” said Gov. Rounds. “This is our way of helping to make sure Corey’s homecoming to South Dakota is special. It’s our small way of saying thanks to Corey and his family.”
Sgt. Corey Briest suffered traumatic brain injuries and blindness from a December 2005 roadside bomb attack in Iraq and has been in rehabilitation at various hospitals. The Bringing Sgt. Corey Briest Home Fund is raising money to build a new home for Corey, his wife Jenny and their two children when they return home to Yankton after being away for two years.
On Casual Fridays, South Dakota state employees donate at least a dollar to wear jeans to work and vote on where the donations go. The money raised goes to various charities, families and special projects. In the past twelve months, more than $70,000 has been donated.
