Friday-Monday, July 11-14, Philadelphia, PA – Gov. Sunday, July 13, Spearfish Canyon, 1-4 p.m. (MDT) South Dakota’s newest state day use area, Roughlock Falls Nature Area in Spearfish Canyon is hosting an open house. The activities will start at 1 p.m., with the dedication starting at 2 p.m. at the upper picnic area. Dedication ceremony speakers include Jeff Vonk, Secretary, SD Department of Game, Fish and Park, Susan Johnson, President, Spearfish Canyon Foundation, Rich Haddock, VP Environment, Barrick Gold Corporation, and Jerry Krambeck, Mayor, City of Spearfish. Roughlock Falls Nature Area is located one mile west from the Scenic Byway at Savoy on FDR 222 in Spearfish Canyon. Sunday-Saturday July 13-19, Court Services, Parole Agents and Juvenile Corrections Agents Week - Gov. Tuesday, July 15, Huron, 8:30 a.m. (CDT) – Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources staff will be among speakers during environmental and manure management training for livestock producers at the Crossroads Convention Center, 100th Fourth Street S.W. The training provides producers required to obtain a state water pollution control permit for livestock operations information on proper manure management and how to comply with the permit. Producers not needing a permit may also be interested in attending to learn about manure management. To pre-register for the training, contact Candy Willms, (605) 688-5141. For more information, visit www.state.sd.us/denr/DES/Surfacewater/MMTraining.htm.
 
Tuesday, July 15, Mitchell The Office of Tourism is sponsoring the South Dakota Agritourism Conference on the campus of Mitchell Technical Institute. The conference is meant to help farmers, ranchers, and tourism professionals learn more about agritourism and how to make it profitable. The conference also will include information on marketing opportunities through the SD Office of Tourism and regional tourism associations, a session on liability issues for business owners, and a panel discussion featuring local agritourism business owners.
