Saturday, September 9, Sioux Falls, 11 a.m. (CDT) - Maj. Gen. Michael Gorman, adjutant general, along with state and local leadership, will provide comments during a Ribbon Cutting Event at the Sioux Falls Veteran's Park. For more information, contact Maj. Orson Ward, 737-6721.
 
Saturday, September 9, Brookings, 3 p.m. (CDT) - Members of the 740th Transportation Company, SDARNG, will be presented the Combat Action Badge by Maj. Gen. Michael Gorman, adjutant general of the South Dakota National Guard. The CAB was approved in May of 2005 by the Army Chief of Staff in order to provide special recognition to Soldiers who personally engaged or were engaged by the enemy in combat. Sunday, September 10, Mitchell, 2 p.m. (CDT)9-11 Ceremony. Maj. Gen. Sunday-Tuesday, September 10-12, Orlando, Fla. — Tyler Sharp with the state Office of Tourism will be attending “THE TRADE SHOW,” America’s largest recurring travel agent show. Monday, September 11, Sioux Falls, noon (CDT) - Maj. Gen. Michael Gorman, adjutant general, and State Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Bekaert of the South Dakota National Guard will participate in the 5th Annual Department of Veterans Affairs Patriot Day Program at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center in order to honor all Americans that have sacrificed in support of the state and nation. Sycamore Ave, to demonstrate child seat use and installation. Saturday, September 16, Pierre, live coverage all day - SDPB Television, Radio and Internet will honor veterans with live coverage of the Vietnam War Memorial Parade and Dedication, plus related programming throughout the day.
  • 9 a.m. -2 p.m. (CDT) - SDPB Radio’s series on the music of the era – Love It or Leave It: The Final Chapter – will set the mood until the Dedication begins. Terry Harris hosts this look at the music that reflected the conflict abroad – and at home – during this chaotic war.
  • 9:30 a.m. (CDT) - SDPB Television presents all the parade action from Pierre with commentators Larry Rohrer and Reed Christopherson.
  • 11:30 a.m. (CDT) - SDPB Television’s Vietnam Survivor Stories takes us into the war as South Dakota veterans relive the fighting in Southeast Asia.
  • 12:30 p.m. (CDT) - SDPB Television presents the PBS program A Time for Honor: Stories from Vietnam, featuring interviews with veterans, scholars and eyewitnesses.
  • 1:30 p.m. (CDT) - SDPB Television begins its pre-dedication show live from the State Capitol grounds with hosts Stephanie Rissler, Bob Bosse and Susan Hanson.
  • 2 p.m. (CDT) - SDPB Radio & SDPB Television present the Vietnam War Memorial Dedication live.
 
Saturday, September 16, Pierre, 9:30 a.m. (CDT) - Vietnam War Memorial Dedication Parade. Approximately 500 South Dakota National Guard Soldiers and Airmen will march during the Vietnam War Memorial Dedication Parade to pay tribute to the service of all Vietnam Veterans. The South Dakota National Guard will also provide logistical, medical, traffic control and ceremonial support throughout the event. A static display of South Dakota National Guard equipment will be exhibited on the capital grounds and multiple military aircraft fly-overs will be conducted during the celebration. Saturday, September 16, Brookings, 12 noon - 3 p.m. (CDT) -- The Governor’s Child Seat Program: Project 8 is designed to educate South Dakota’s parents and guardians about proper child seat use and installation. Early Childhood Enrichment (ECE) programs and Project 8 community partners in Brookings gear up to partner with State Farm Insurance to host a car seat event during the sixth annual State Farm Child Safety Days during the month of September. Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available at the Kleinjan Chiropractic, 1204 Main Ave S, to help celebrate Kids Day America and to also demonstrate child seat use and installation.
