PIERRE, S.D. – The following are news tips from offices and agencies within South Dakota State Government:
 
August - September 3 -The South Dakota Highway Patrol is joining forces with the Office of Highway Safety and local law enforcement agencies to put a dent in drunk driving this summer. The combined effort is part of the national “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.” campaign. The campaign focuses on the use of enforcement, education, and awareness to help combat drunk driving in South Dakota. For more information, contact Brooke Bohnenkamp, (605) 773-3178.
 
Thursday-Monday, August 30 – September 3, Huron – The South Dakota State Fair will run for 5 days at the State Fairgrounds.   For more information on fair events, visit the Web site at www.sdstatefair.com.
 
Thursday-Monday, August 30 - Sept. 3, Huron, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. (CDT) -The South Dakota Highway Patrol is hosting a booth in the Expo Building at this year's State Fair. Representatives from the patrol will be available to answer questions about state traffic laws and motor carrier laws. Thursday-Monday, August 30 - Sept. 3, Huron, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. (CDT) - For free severe weather preparedness guides, family communications plans, and a chance to win a weather radio visit the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management booth in the Expo Building at the State Fair. Representatives from the state Emergency Management Office will be on hand all day every day to answer your emergency management and preparedness questions. Saturday-Monday, September 1-3, Huron, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. (CDT) -Need to renew your driver's license? Visit the South Dakota Driver Licensing booth at the State Fair. Personnel will issue renewals and duplicates in the Expo Building on the State Fairgrounds. No drivers license testing will be available at this location. Tuesday, September 4, Sisseton, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (CDT)  - The South Dakota Department of Labor will have a Veterans Outreach Representative from the Northeast Area Career Center available 205 East Oak. Any veteran with questions about employment, job searches, career counseling or training should call the Sisseton office at (605) 698-3964 for more information or to schedule an appointment.  Information is also found at www.sdjobs.org

Wednesday, September 5, Sioux Falls, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. (CDT) – The South Dakota Department of Labor (DOL) will be sponsoring “Business Expo 2007 – Solutions from your workforce experts” at the Holiday Inn City Centre. Business owners, managers, and HR specialists are encouraged to attend. They will have an opportunity to visit one-on-one with DOL staff, attend breakout sessions covering workforce-related topics, and listen to today’s hot topic “Generation Communication.” For more information, visit www.sdjobs.org and click the “Businesses” tab or call (605) 773-6804. Registration fee is $35 per person.

Saturday, September 8, Rapid City, Range Road National Guard Armory, 2 p.m. (MDT) - 109th RSG Activation and 109th GRP Deactivation Ceremony - The South Dakota Army National Guard will be officially activating the 109th Regional Support Group and deactivating the 109th Engineer Group during a ceremony at the Range Road Armory in Rapid City as part of the Army National Guard's Transformation. The public is encouraged to attend. For more information, please contact Maj. Sunday, September 9, Pierre, local Armory, 10 a.m. (CDT) -152nd CSSB Activation Ceremony - The South Dakota Army National Guard will activate a new logistical unit during a ceremony at the local armory in Pierre as part of the Army National Guard's Transformation. Sunday, September 9, Rapid City, 10 a.m. (MDT) - 129th Freedom Salute - Members of the 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment will be honored for their service during a ceremony at  Building 450 on Camp Rapid, Rapid City. The National Guard Freedom Salute Campaign is a dedication to the Soldiers, family members, and employers of units deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and Noble Eagle. Sunday, September 9, Sioux Falls Armory, 12:30 p.m. (CDT) - 196th MEB Activation and HHB, 147th FA BDE Deactivation Ceremony - The South Dakota Army National Guard will be conducting an activation ceremony for the 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade and a deactivation ceremony for Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 147th Field Artillery Brigade at the Sioux Falls Armory as part of the Army National Guard's Transformation.
