South Dakota Quarter to be Launched
PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Mike Rounds will be joined by Edmund Moy, Director of the United States Mint for the launch of the South Dakota quarter at Mount Rushmore National Memorial on November 13, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. (MT). Members of the Black Hills Coin and Stamp Club and the Mount Rushmore National MemorialSociety willprovide volunteers to assist with the ceremony and other activities.
The new South Dakota quarter design, that is part of the United States Mint 50 State Quarters® Program, was recommended by public internet voting and written ballot voting at all South Dakota banks last year. Over 170,000 votes were cast by South Dakotan voters, who recommended Mount Rushmore National Memorial with a ring-necked pheasant bordered by heads of wheat to the Department of the Treasury as the new quarter design.
