Gov. Rounds Appoints Second Circuit Court Judge
PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Mike Rounds announced today the appointment of Doug Hoffman of Sioux Falls as judge in the Second Judicial Circuit of South Dakota.
Hoffman has been a partner with Myers & Billion, LLP since 1991. His primary areas of practice are civil and commercial litigation, appellate practice, family law and criminal defense. Doug is a qualified mediator/arbitrator and has six years experience in mediation practice. He also serves as a Municipal Hearing Officer for the City of Sioux Falls.
“I am very pleased that Governor Rounds has selected me to fill the new judicial position in the Second Circuit. I know that he had a number of fine applicants from which to choose,” said Hoffman. “I am anxious to assume my new duties as a Circuit Judge for the citizens in Minnehaha and LincolnCounties.”
Hoffman has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from the University of Iowa, and attended LawSchool at the University of South Dakota, where he served as Symposium Editor of the South Dakota Law Review and was awarded the Spencer Award for the most outstanding student article published in Volume 29 of the Review. Upon graduation from LawSchool in 1985, and prior to entering the private practice of law, Doug served a two-year term as Law Clerk to United States District Judge John B. Jones in Sioux Falls.
Hoffman lives in Sioux Falls with his wife, Gretchen, and their son, Derek, and daughter, Paige. He will begin his tenure on the bench effective upon taking the oath of office.
