PIERRE, S.D. – The following are news tips from offices and agencies within South Dakota State Government:
 
Saturday, July 1, Sioux Falls, 8 a.m. (CDT) – Combat Action Badge Presentation Ceremony to 1742nd Transportation Company.  The 1742nd Transportation Company will be awarded the Combat Action Badge at the Sioux Falls National Guard Armory, located at 801 West National Guard Drive.  Following the ceremony, a Family Day picnic will take place at KeuhnPark. The 1742nd was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from June 2003 through June 2004 and stationed at Balad Air Base, Iraq. For more information, contact Maj. Orson Ward, 737-6721.
 
Saturday, July 1, Armour, 10 a.m. (CDT) – Gov. Mike Rounds will speak at the Douglas County Area Veterans Memorial dedication being held at the Douglas County Court House.  For more information, contact Mark Johnston, 773-3212.
 
Monday, July 3, Sioux Falls, 11:30 a.m. (CDT) – Gov. Mike Rounds will attend the Mayor’s Grand Luncheon for the Sesquicentennial Celebration being held at the Washington Pavilion, Grand Stage. For more information, contact Mark Johnston, 773-3212.
 
Monday, July 3, Belle Fourche, 8 p.m. (MDT) – Gov. Mike Rounds will present the Knight of the Legion of Honor award to Edwin Petranek during the Belle Fourche Rodeo. For more information, contact Mark Johnston, 773-3212.
 
Monday, July 3, Mount Rushmore National Memorial, 9 p.m. (MDT) - Tourism officials will help people view the thousands of fireworks that will burst over America’s Shrine of Democracy during the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Independence Day fireworks extravaganza. The July 3 fireworks will broadcast live via satellite to media across the country. Fireworks are scheduled for 9:15 p.m. MDT (11:15 p.m. Eastern or 8:15 p.m. Pacific). The satellite window will open at 9 p.m. MDT. Thursday, July 6, Keystone, 9 a.m. (MDT) - DENR Ground Water Quality staff will test drinking water from private wells for nitrates. The free nitrate testing clinic will be held from 9-noon at the KeystoneCommunity Center, 1101 Madill St. The clinic will be sponsored by the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as part of a series of free water-testing clinics being offered statewide throughout the summer of 2006. For more information, contact Matthew Bunger, DENR, 773-3296.
 
Thursday, July 6, Pierre, 10 a.m. (CDT) - The Department of Labor’s Workforce Development Council will hold a meeting in Kneip Conference Room 3, located at 700 Governors Drive. Action will include election of council officers. Individuals needing assistance, special accommodations, or materials in an alternative format pursuant to the American Disabilities Act should notify Kari Porch, 1-800-952-3216.
 
Thursday, July 6, Britton 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. (CDT) - The Department of Labor’s South DakotaCareerCenter will be holding itinerant office hours. Anyone interested in receiving employment services for both job seekers and employers at no cost, along with veteran services, training programs and unemployment insurance, may visit the Marshall County Community Hall or call (605) 448-2682 during these office hours.
 
Thursday-Friday, July 6-7, Pierre, 1 p.m. (CDT) - The Game, Fish and Parks Commission will hold its July meeting at the Ramkota River Centre. A public hearing will start at 2 p.m. with regard to setting the 2006 hunting seasons for antelope, East River deer, early fall Canada goose and youth waterfowl as well as modifications to private shooting preserve and tree stand regulations.
