Economic Development Director chosen for European Visitors Program

PIERRE, S.D. – Bill Even has been selected as a delegate in the 2007 European Union Visitor’s Program (EUVP). Bill recently was appointed as the state’s Economic Development Director in the Department of Tourism and State Development.

Even was nominated by Gov. Mike Rounds to represent South Dakota in the program. He is one of only 20 people from the United States to be chosen as a delegate for the EUVP that promotes knowledge of the European Union among current or future U.S. leaders and decision makers.

“Bill has been instrumental in a number of challenging projects involving South Dakota’s energy industry,” said Gov. Rounds. “This opportunity will allow him exposure to new and innovative public policy ideas.”

The European Union Visitors Program invites young, promising leaders from countries outside the European Union (EU) to visit Europe to gain a first-hand appreciating of the EU’s goals, policies and peoples and to increase mutual understanding between professionals from non-EU counties and their EU counterparts. Those eligible must be in their mid-20s to mid-40s with career-related interests in the European Union. Travel and per diem costs are covered by the EUVP. More information about the program can be found at www.eurunion.org/delegati/ppd/euvp.htm.
