PIERRE, S.D. – The following are news tips from offices and agencies within South Dakota State Government:
 
Saturday, April 1, Oacoma, Noon (CST) – DENR staff will be among speakers at a South Dakota Auto Recyclers meeting at the CedarShoreConferenceCenter. The DENR topics involve hazardous waste rules and industrial storm water regulations. Sunday-Thursday, April 2-6, western South Dakota – The South Dakota Office of Tourism, along with visitor industry partners, will host 28 international group tour operators on a familiarization tour of western South Dakota. Tour operators from Benelux, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom will visit BadlandsNational Park, WindCaveNational Park, Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Crazy Horse Memorial and attractions in Deadwood, Wall, Keystone and Rapid City. Tuesday, April 4, Rapid City, 9 a.m. (MDT) - Celebrity Reading Program. Maj. Gen. Tuesday, April 4, Yankton, 10:30 a.m. (CDT) - First Lady Jean Rounds will speak to the fifth graders at Stewart Elementary School, 208 W. 21st Street, about the dangers of alcohol use. This Reach Out Now Teach-In event is one of many that other schools and organizations throughout the country will hold during the week of April 3-7, and through the month of April, which is Alcohol Awareness Month. The Reach Out Now National Teach-In is a nationwide program sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to help prevent underage drinking. Tuesday, April 4, Aberdeen, 2 p.m. (CDT) - The Governor’s Child Seat Program: Project 8 is designed to help educate South Dakota’s parents and guardians about proper child seat use and installation. Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available at the Aberdeen Fire Station to educate and demonstrate child seat use and installation, from 2-5 p.m. Project 8 reminds all parents and other adults responsible for children traveling in motor vehicles -- if the kids are less than 4’9” tall -- they need to be in a booster seat. Alliance for Full Participation Summit will be held at the Holiday Inn City Centre, 100 W 8th St. This meeting is one several being held around the state in an effort to build on the lessons gained from the Summit, to follow-up with Summit participants and to hear from other self-advocates, parents and professionals about South Dakota’s system of services for people with developmental disabilities. People with developmental disabilities and their families who may need assistance with costs to attend the sessions should call the SD Council on Developmental Disabilities, 773-6369 or 1-800-265-9684.
 
Wednesday, April 5, Mystic Lake, Minn. – Tyler Sharp, trade sales and marketing representative with the South Dakota Office of Tourism, will market South Dakota to group tour operators and travel agents at the Midwest Group Tour Expo. Wednesday, April 5, Pierre, 10 a.m. (CDT) – Gov. Wednesday, April 5, Winner, 10 a.m. (CDT) – Officials with the South Dakota Office of Tourism will meet with representatives from the Winner Chamber of Commerce and community leaders to discuss marketing a southern route to the Black Hills. The meeting is part of Tourism’s “Comin’ to Your City Tour” unveiled at the 2006 Governor’s Conference on Tourism. Wednesday, April 5, Madison, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. (CDT) – The S.D. Dept. of Labor’s MadisonCareerCenter will be hosting a job search assistance program at the CareerCenter office at 223 S. Thursday-Friday, April 6-7, Pierre, 8:30 a.m. (CDT) - The Game, Fish and Parks Commission will hold its April meeting at the Pierre Ramkota Inn. A public hearing will begin at 2 p.m. with regard to preference retention and elk and upland game seasons, as well as dog training rules. Recommendations will be made for establishing the 2006 archery deer and antelope, muzzleloader and youth deer, mountain lion, nonresident waterfowl, special Canada goose and tundra swan hunting seasons.
