South Dakota Art Showcased by First Lady Rounds
PIERRE, S.D. – First Lady Jean Rounds hosts the First Lady’s Prairie Art Showcase Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Ramkota RiverCentre in Pierre.
“The exhibition reveals the extraordinary creativity of South Dakota artists,” said First Lady Jean Rounds. “I am honored to have the privilege of bringing such a gifted group together to showcase their talents and Made in South Dakota products.”
Thirty-eight artists have been invited to show at this year’s event. Their work includes acrylic, watercolor and oil paintings, pottery, bone carving, basketry, jewelry, photography, sculpture and more.
The Prairie Art Showcase is open to the public 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. A pumpkin decorating workshop for school age children and up will be held in the Courtyard 12:30-2 p.m. Pierre artist Eileen Bertsch will lead a beading class at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Visitors may also test their aim at a LaserShot Shooting Simulator offered by the Game, Fish and Parks Department. All activities are free and open to the public. Information regarding South Dakota’s Vietnam War Memorial dedication and the Made in South Dakota program will also be available.
South Dakota Arts Council support is provided for the beading class with funds from the State of South Dakota, through the Department of Tourism and State Development, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
