PIERRE – Gov. Mike Rounds announced today that the Scotland School District will be the site of his fifth education-focused town hall meeting on Tuesday, April 20, at 7 p.m. (CDT) in the high school gymnasium in Scotland.
“Our recently released test scores show that our schools are doing a very good job,” said Gov. Rounds on the announcement. “I am committed to working with our communities in developing long-term solutions for the delivery of education in the State of South Dakota.”
The intent of the meeting is to invite administrators, teachers, board members and the community to share data and information to ensure that the future education system in Scotland prepares students for college, technical school and the workplace.
According to the governor, “In 1972, there were 175,000 students in the K-12 system in South Dakota. Today, there are 125,000 students with more than 4000 more employees than we had in 1972. Tomorrows educational delivery will require coordinated scheduling, cooperative classes between districts, and in some cases, consolidation. I am committed to working with districts throughout the state by providing the necessary tools to make informed decisions.”
Scotland is a district with a pre-K-12 enrollment of 286 students.
