Gov. Rounds to hold education town hall meeting in Alexandria
PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Mike Rounds announced today that the Hanson School District will be the site of his seventh education-focused town hall meeting on Thursday, September 16, at 7 p.m. (CDT) at the Hanson High School gymnasium in Alexandria.
“We must work together to develop long-term solutions for the delivery of education in our state,” said Gov. Rounds. “The intent of this meeting is to invite the community, administrators, teachers and board members to share data and information to ensure that the future education system prepares students for college, technical school and the workplace.”
In 1972, there were 175,000 students in the K-12 system in South Dakota. Today, there are 125,000 students who require more services.
“Tomorrow’s educational delivery will require coordinated scheduling, cooperative classes between districts, and in some cases, consolidation,” said Gov. Rounds. “I am committed to working with these districts by providing the necessary tools to make informed decisions.”
Hanson is a district with a K-12 enrollment of 338 students.
