State employees raise more than $33,000 for soldier fund
PIERRE – Gov. Mike Rounds announced today that state employees have contributed more than $33,000 to the “I’ll be home for Christmas” fund for National Guard units stationed around the world.
“I am extremely proud of our state employees who have generously contributed to this effort,” said Gov. Rounds. “We want our National Guard men and women to know that we support them and their families; and that even though they can’t be home for the holidays this gesture will help make their lives a little easier.”
Last month, Gov. Rounds asked all state employees to support a South Dakota National Guard effort to raise money for phones and phone cards for units deployed over seas. Additional money will be used for needed morale, welfare and recreation equipment.
“Not only have our state employees responded, but many other communities and organizations have contacted us to find out how they may also help,” said Gov. Rounds. “This is truly a state-wide effort.”
