Gov. Rounds names Chamberlain “Capital for a Day”

PIERRES.D. – Gov. Mike Rounds announced today that he will bring the capital city to the citizens of Chamberlain and Oacoma on Wednesday, August 4, 2004.

“We’re looking forward to visiting the Chamberlain-Oacoma area,” said Gov. Rounds. “These Capitals for a Day are designed so we can talk with people from all across the state and get input on how to improve South Dakota and our government. We enjoy learning about the people in the area and how to make a great community even better.”

The day’s activities will be hosted at the Oacoma Community Center. The agenda is as follows:

9 a.m.               Governor and Cabinet arrive in Chamberlain 

9:30 a.m.          Gov. Rounds and Cabinet meet with the public; booths open for visitation

10 a.m.             Chamberlain City Commission and Oacoma Town Board host Chamberlain-Oacoma development tours for staff and Cabinet

11:30 a.m.        Complimentary lunch with Gov. Rounds open to the public; sponsored by: cities of Chamberlain and Oacoma; Chamberlain-Oacoma Area Chamber of Commerce; and, Lake Francis Case Development Corporation.

12:30 p.m.        Gov. Rounds addresses the community; followed by a question and answer session

1 p.m.              Dancing Dolls performance

1:30 p.m.          Gov. Rounds and Cabinet meet with the public; booths open for visitation

2 p.m.              Gov. Rounds, Cabinet and staff depart for Pierre              

Chamberlain is the eleventh “Capital for a Day” in South Dakota, following Brookings, Sturgis, Wessington Springs, Lemmon, AberdeenHot Springs, Yankton, Faith, Britton and Wall.
