PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Mike Rounds announced today that the newly appointed state Website Policy Review Committee will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at 10 a.m. (CT) in the governor’s large conference room at the state Capitol.
“State government is responsible to its citizens,” said Gov. Rounds. “This includes being responsible for our websites and making sure we are providing credible information for all South Dakotans. We need to assure the public that content found on the state website is in the public’s interest and is appropriate for all citizens,” said Rounds.
Members representing the state include:
· Bureau of Information and Telecommunication Commissioner Otto Doll, committee chair
· Administration Commissioner Paul Kinsman
· Attorney General Larry Long
· Education Secretary Dr. Rick Melmer
· Health Secretary Doneen Hollingsworth
· Secretary of State Chris Nelson
· Janelle Toman, Board of Regents
· Jim Fry, Legislative Research Council
· State Representative Rebekah Cradduck
Members representing the public include:
· Bobbie Worth, Aberdeen
· Dawn Morris, Pierre
· Deb Hagemeier, Sioux Falls
· Eric Abrahamson, Rapid City
· Rich Mittelstedt, Watertown
· Tim Waltner, Freeman
· Troy Long, Sioux Falls
“I have challenged this talented group of individuals to begin reviewing the existing state web policy as it relates to content found on the South Dakota website and the links from the South Dakota site to other sites,” said Gov. Rounds. “After their review, they will give me their recommendations.”
Following the review and policy update, other agencies can begin reviewing their website content.
