State Government Agencies to Share Quarters in Sioux Falls

Single Location Offers One-Stop Convenience to Public

(Pierre) – Access to services will be more convenient for the public after the Sioux Falls offices of seven state agencies move to a new location in the coming weeks.

“This relocation will be a huge benefit for the public. People will be able to go to one location to get the services they need from these state agencies,” Gov. Bill Janklow said. “It is especially important that people will no longer have to drive across town from the Department of Social Services if they also need assistance from the Departments of Labor or Human Services.”

Janklow said the new one-stop center at 811 E. 10th Street in the former Sears Store is on a Sioux Falls community transit route and has improved parking for people with disabilities.

First to move into the new location will be the Department of Social Services. DSS will begin operating there on September 23. In the coming weeks, other state departments will relocate their Sioux Falls operations there. They include the Department of Human Services; the Department of Labor; the Department of Agriculture; the Bureau of Information and Telecommunications; the Governor’s Office of Economic Development; and the Real Estate Commission.

The move also allows some state offices to coordinate their extended evening hours.  For example, the Dept. of Social Services Economic Assistance Office and the Dept. of Labor, were each open on one evening to accommodate people who need assistance after regular office hours.  However, they were open on separate nights.  Now, both offices will be open from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evenings.

Social Services, Human Services and Labor all plan to complete their moves into the newly-renovated building during weekends so there will be no disruption in service.   Letters are being sent to current clients, alerting them to the upcoming office relocation.
