Gov. Rounds announces first education town hall meeting
PIERRE – Gov. Mike Rounds announced today that Iroquois, SD will be the site of his first education-focused town hall meeting on Tuesday, July 22 at 7 p.m. at the high school gymnasium.
“We should provide a quality education for our children, because they are our future,”
said Gov. Rounds on the announcement. “I am committed to working with our communities in developing long-term solutions to the delivery of education in the State of South Dakota,”
The intent of the meeting is to invite administrators, teachers, board members and the community to share data and information to ensure that the future education system in Iroquois prepares students for college, technical school and the workplace.
According to the governor, “In 1972, there were 175,000 students in the K-12 system in South Dakota. Today, there are 125,000 students with more than 4000 more employees than we had in 1972. Tomorrows educational delivery will require coordinated scheduling, cooperative classes between districts, and in some cases, consolidation. I am committed to working with districts throughout the state by providing the necessary tools to make informed decisions.”
Iroquois is a district in Beadle and Kingsbury Counties with a pre-K-12 enrollment of 220 students.
