Fallen Sons and Daughters Project On SD WWII Memorial Web Site

(Pierre) – Biographies and information about South Dakota’s men and women who lost their lives in World War II are now available on the South Dakota World War II Memorial web site.

The Fallen Sons and Daughters of South Dakota in World War II project can be found on the Internet at www.sdwwiimemorial.com. The web site contains the stories of more than 2,000 South Dakota men and women who were killed during the war.

The biographies were researched and written by high school and grade school students across South Dakota as part of a year-long project funded by Gov. Bill Janklow. “Their sacrifice to preserve our freedom should never be forgotten, and this is one way these brave men and women can always be remembered,” Janklow said.

Saturday, Dec. 7, marks the 61^st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor that marked the United States of America’s entry into World War II.  Biographies of eleven South Dakota men killed at Pearl Harbor are included on the web site. 

The web site’s features include alphabetical listings as well as special search functions and a complete list of the participating schools and teachers.
