Security Threat Level Raised

PIERRE -- As of 7:00 pm CDTMonday, March 17, 2003, the Homeland Security Alert System was elevated to the Orange/High level.  This rise in the alert level is not a result of specific threats to South Dakota, or the United States in general; it is the result of multiple intelligence sources that indicate the increased possibility for terrorist activity.

“Citizens in South Dakota will see an increase in law enforcement during the heightened security alert,” said Governor Mike Rounds.

Increased security is a deterrent to any potential threat.  Citizens are advised to remain alert to any abnormal activities around critical infrastructure, airports, dams or federal and state buildings.
