Janklow Signs Legislative Redistricting Bills Into Law
(Pierre) -- Gov. Bill Janklow today signed into law the bills establishing the new legislative districts in South Dakota.
The bills, introduced during the special redistricting legislative session held Oct. 23 and 24, set the principles by which the districts were determined and the composition of the new legislative districts.
The new legislative boundaries take effect for the 2002 legislative election process. Legislatures nationwide adjust districts every ten years after the new U.S. Census.
The bills signed are:
HB 1001 An Act to provide for redistricting principles for the 2001 legislative redistricting.
SB 1 An Act to provide for the decennial redistricting of the State Legislature.
