Students from Sturgis and Rapid City Win U.S. Savings Bonds Poster Contest
(Pierre) -- Sturgis Williams Middle School fifth-grade student Brandon Weyer won the state’s 2001 U.S. Savings Bonds Student Poster Contest, according to Governor Bill Janklow. The winning poster will represent South Dakota in the national contest that will be judged in May.
Tiffany Redinger, another Sturgis Williams Middle School student, won second place. Rapid City South Middle School sixth grader Lisa Vogl won third place.
"All of the students who entered the contest got to use their creative talents and learned more about handling money and saving for the future," Janklow said.
A total of 335 students from across the state participated in the contest.
Each year the Governor’s Office coordinates the state contest. The top three poster designers win U.S. Savings Bonds donated by Wells Fargo Bank South Dakota, N.A. First place receives a $1,000 savings bond. Second place receives a $500 savings bond and third place receives a $200 savings bond.
Information about the contest is also available at the U.S. Savings Bonds website.
