Entertainers Announced for Capitol Centennial Celebration
 
PIERRE, S.D. – State champion fiddlers, children and adult singers, and traditional Native American dancers will entertain the crowd June 19 at the Capitol Centennial Celebration in Pierre.
 
A stage will be located on the front steps of the Capitol for the live entertainment, which is scheduled at various times from 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. CDT.
 
Michael Pangburn of the South Dakota Arts Council says performers from across the state will appear at the event to showcase a variety of music and dancing styles.
 
“We’re fortunate to have found performers from all over South Dakota, including some who may be familiar to the audience and others who may not be familiar. We have good diversity among our entertainers, and I think there will be something that day to appeal to all tastes,” Pangburn said.
 
Performance times and those scheduled to appear:
 
*        9:15 a.m. – Nordic Nimble Feet, Brookings
*        10 a.m.CapitalCity Children’s Chorus and Rapid City Children’s Chorus
*        11 a.m. – Shrine of Democracy Chorus, Rapid City
*        Noon – 147th Army Band, South Dakota National Guard
*        2:15 p.m. – Putnam, Conner, Bristow & Pospisil
*        3:20 p.m. – Lakol Wicohan Unskanbpi (living culture group), Lower Brule
*        4 p.m.CapitalCity Band, Pierre
 
“Many of the performers are well known on the national level, such as fiddler Kenny Putnam and the National Guard Band. We’re excited to feature them in free performances for everyone to enjoy,” said Pangburn.
 
People are reminded to bring their own chairs and blankets for use that day during the entertainment and the free picnic at the event.
