Governor Appoints Two Members of State Arts Council
PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard has appointed Mary Bordeaux of Pine Ridge and Lynne Byrne of Sioux Falls to the South Dakota Arts Council.
Bordeaux is curator of The Heritage Center at the Red Cloud Indian School in Pine Ridge. She gained experience in arts collections, preservation and exhibits while working at the Southwest Museum in Los Angeles; National museum of the American Indian in Suitland, Maryland; Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, N.M.; and the Sioux Indian Museum in Rapid City.
Byrne is an owner of VistaComm and Byrne Companies. She is a founding member and current member of the Sculpture Walk Board in Sioux Falls, served for many years on the Civic Fine Arts Center Board and has been an art instructor for 30 years.
Bordeaux and Byrne were appointed by the Governor to fill vacancies created by the resignations of Mickey Miller of Pierre and Karen Tufty of Flandreau.
“I’m pleased that Mary and Lynne have agreed to donate their time to public service,” Gov. Daugaard said. “They will be great additions to the Arts Council.”
The 11-member South Dakota Arts Council plans and promotes the development of arts in the state. With funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and South Dakota state government, the Council provides grants and services to artists, art organizations and schools across the state.
