PIERRE, S.D. – Lakota Industries of Xenia, Ohio, and OctaFlex Environmental Systems of Timber Lake will team up to produce a product line of archery bows with Lakota themes in South Dakota, Gov. Mike Rounds announced today.
“I’m pleased to see a company like Lakota Industries create a presence in South Dakota and make a quality product that showcases an important segment of the state’s heritage,” Gov. Rounds said. “This partnership with OctaFlex is truly a unique venture, and I’m proud to say it is happening right here in South Dakota.”
Four bow models will be produced in TimberLake: Big Foot, Oglala, Bison and Takini.
“Each model bears a Lakota name and is designed for optimal arrow speed, accuracy and durability,” said Dick Williamson, CEO of Lakota Industries. “Lakota bows are also flexible enough to cater to anyone with an interest in target archery, bow hunting or 3D shooting -- including youth and those with physical disabilities.”
The initiative will create six jobs at the start and is expected to create 15-20 additional jobs on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation by year’s end. While details of the project are still being finalized, Williamson said he is excited to be working with a South Dakota company.
“My heart has always been in the Cheyenne River area, and that’s where I really wanted to make this happen,” Williamson said. “While Lakota Industries has had a strong grip on the engineering and design of the bows for quite some time, we need OctaFlex machinery and expertise to get the project up and running. OctaFlex has been a very enterprising organization for many years, and I’m really looking forward to being a part of that.”
Timber Lake Mayor Clyde Pfeifle (FY’ – flee) said the partnership is positive for both companies, as well as the community. “I’m optimistic that this project’s success will spur ancillary businesses in the TimberLake area,” Pfeifle said. “There is a tremendous opportunity for art, accessories and summer festivals.”
