FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, July 28, 2010 CONTACT: Jennifer Hodny, Communications Coordinator Hand County Receives Grant for Hospital Facility PIERRE, S.D. - Gov. Mike Rounds announced today that a new hospital project in Hand County is getting a shot in the arm from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Gov. Rounds has approved a $309,000 grant to help construct a new 14,700-square-foot health-care facility in Miller. “Annual patient visits continue to increase at Hand County Memorial Hospital, and the facility needs updating to accommodate modern medical practices,” Gov. Rounds said. The new hospital in Miller will have an emergency room, patient rooms, an x-ray room and examination rooms. “This hospital project will offer improved health care and convenience to the residents of Hand County and the surrounding area. I’m pleased to allocate funds for this initiative,” the Governor said. CDBG is a reimbursement program, and the community will receive the funds as work is completed. The program provides communities with financial resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Past grants have been used for improvements and construction of community buildings, fire halls, water systems, and sewer systems. The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development funds the CDBG Program, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development administers it. -30- Links:
