Burdick Brothers Expands in Redfield, Receives APEX Loan
PIERRE, S.D. – Burdick Brothers, Inc, a custom machining, welding and farm equipment repair company, is expanding its Redfield business.
The company is adding 5,600 square feet to its facility and upgrading equipment to modernize its operation and meet current customer demands. Additionally, Burdick Brothers expects to hire another four employees within the next three years.
"My brother Gene and I started this business in 1985. Since then farm equipment has gotten much larger and our customers own more equipment than ever before," said Jim Burdick, Owner, Burdick Brothers, Inc. "This extra space will make it much easier for us to efficiently maneuver and repair these bigger machines."
This expansion project is expected to be complete by February of 2012.
The expansion is being made possible, in part, by a loan recently approved by the South Dakota Economic Development Finance Authority (EDFA). The Board approved a $168,750 Agricultural Processing and Export (APEX) loan for Burdick Brothers.
APEX Loans are offered by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and approved by the Economic Development Finance Authority. The APEX program is designed to assist companies in communities with a population of 25,000 or less that add value to agricultural products or export a majority of their product outside of South Dakota.
“Helping our home-grown businesses continue to prosper in rural communities is a great use of the APEX program,” said Terry G. Nelson, EDFA Chairman. “I’m very pleased the state has a program available to help Burdick Brothers increase this much needed service in central South Dakota.”
