Winners Claim $20,000 Dakota Cash Jackpot
PIERRE, S.D. – One purchased a Quick Pick. The other chose his own numbers. And when the Sept. 19, 2012, Dakota Cash drawing was over, both were jackpot winners.
Lewis Trusty of Custer and Donald Leff of Mobridge each claimed their share of the $20,000 prize, or $10,000 apiece, on Sept. 21, 2012.
Trusty purchased his winning ticket at Common Cents #140 on West Mount Rushmore Road in Custer. Leff’s winning ticket came from Gas ‘N Goodies on Main Street in Mobridge. Both stores will receive a $500 bonus for the sales.
Trusty, who always plays his own numbers, says his jackpot win may have been part of a recent lucky streak.
“I won a Gatorade cooler from Common Cents about a week ago, and I told them maybe that was a sign I would start winning on my lottery tickets,” said Trusty.
Though Leff’s lucky numbers were drawn for him, he was just as appreciative of the win.
“I go in there for coffee all the time, and I buy tickets for every drawing. She (the clerk) told me to check my numbers, I might have won the big one. I told her no, I probably didn’t, but I did!” Leff said.
Dakota Cash is played and won only in South Dakota. The odds of winning the jackpot playing Dakota Cash are 1:324,632. The jackpot currently sits at $20,000 for the next drawing on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.
