Powerball Jackpot at Record $425 Million, $10,007 South Dakota Winner from Latest Drawing

(Pierre) – With no jackpot winner for the November 24, 2012 drawing, the Powerball jackpot currently sits at a record $425 million for the next drawing on November 28, 2012. That means a cash prize of $278.3 million.

The previous record-high Powerball jackpot was $365 million, won in 2006. The current jackpot run began on October 6, 2012. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1:175,223,510.

Players who don’t hit the jackpot Wednesday night can still pocket bigger prizes if they purchase the Power Play option for an additional $1 when they buy a Powerball ticket. Tickets that have the Power Play option and match all five white ball numbers but not the red Powerball will win $2 million automatically.

Despite no jackpot winner in the last Powerball drawing over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, a Powerball ticket sold at the Lil Feller on East Second Street in Winner was worth $10,007. The ticket holder matched four of five white ball numbers and the Powerball to win the game’s $10,000 third prize and also matched three of five white ball numbers but not the Powerball on another play line of the same ticket for an additional $7. The prize was claimed Monday, November 26 at the Lottery office in Pierre by Allen Devish of Redding, CA. The retailer will get a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Powerball tickets can be purchased at any Lottery retailer until 9:00 p.m. CT/8:00 p.m. MT the night of the drawing. South Dakota Lottery officials remind those purchasing tickets for the record jackpot Wednesday night to please play responsibly; it only takes one ticket to win.

Powerball is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
