Saturday, Dec. 8, Pierre, State Capitol – The 15th annual Pie Day will be observed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST in the Statehouse. The event features free pie, cookies, coffee and ice cream. The public is encouraged to enjoy the refreshments and view the annual Christmas tree display. Area talent will provide entertainment throughout the day.

 

Monday, Dec. 10, Pierre, 2:05 p.m. CST – Gov. Dennis Daugaard will appear on South Dakota Perspective, broadcast on KGFX and other affiliate stations of the Dakota News Network.

 

Monday, Dec. 10, Pierre, Governor’s Mansion – Public tours to view Christmas finery in the Governor’s Mansion will be held on Monday, Dec. 10, and Monday, Dec. 17.  Six holiday tours will be conducted each day, at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. CST.  There is a limit of 40 people per tour. Tuesday-Thursday, Dec. 11-13, Spearfish The South Dakota Board of Regents will meet on the campus of Black Hills State University for its regular business meeting. Executive sessions begin Tuesday at 6 p.m. MST and continue from 8 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The regents’ business meeting convenes at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, in the Jacket Legacy Room in the Student Union. The agenda includes a public rules hearing on the South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship (at 1:30 p.m.), approval of new programs and delivery sites, and review of the Governor’s FY14 budget recommendations. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 10:15 a.m., MST, Hilton Garden Inn, 815 E. Mall Drive, Rapid City –  A state Department of Environment and Natural Resources official will speak at a summit called “Opportunities in the Bakken and West River Expansion.” Derric Iles, state geologist, will join oil and real estate experts and political leaders to outline growth and prosperity opportunities associated with the Bakken and Williston Basin. Iles will discuss the Red River Formation as compared to North Dakota’s oil production, South Dakota’s oil and gas potential, how DENR is promoting oil and gas exploration and development, and how DENR is using technology to provide pertinent information on exploration and development of South Dakota’s oil and gas resources. Wednesday, Dec. 12, Spearfish, 1:30 p.m. MST – The South Dakota Board of Regents will hold a public hearing to adopt rules for the South Dakota Opportunity Scholarship program. The effect of the rules is to allow scholarship students to complete coursework in career and technical education, pursue alternative forms of instruction in order to establish initial eligibility for the scholarship program, and to provide eighth semester funding for students who graduate a semester early. The rules hearing will be held in the Jacket Legacy Room in the Student Union on the campus of Black Hills State University, 1200 University Blvd.  Copies of the proposed rules may be obtained without charge from the South Dakota Board of Regents, 306 E. Capitol Ave., 1 p.m. CST - The Petroleum Release Compensation Board will hold its annual meeting with insurance industry representatives to determine the viability of private insurance for pollution coverage for petroleum tank owners. Other items on the agenda include a report on the financial status of the Petroleum Release Compensation Fund, an update on underground storage tank operator training, an overview of the upcoming 2013 Legislature, and election of officers.
