Commissioner Of Bureau Of Human Resources Retiring

PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced today that Sandy Zinter, Commissioner of the state Bureau of Human Resources (BHR), will retire early next month.

“I am grateful for all of the years Sandy has dedicated to public service. With all of her experience and knowledge, Sandy has been a valuable member of the team,” said Gov. Daugaard. “I hate to see her go, but I understand her desire to spend time with her family and I wish her the best.”

Zinter joined BHR, then the Bureau of Personnel, under Gov. William Janklow and has led the bureau for 18 years. Of the current members of the cabinet, Zinter has served the longest in the same position.

“I have been fortunate to have served under three Governors. The experience has given me an appreciation of the work of state employees and the unique ability of South Dakota’s government to serve the people,” said Zinter.

Zinter’s last day will be June 7.

The Governor has named Kim Stahl, the former Senior Resource Manager at BHR, to serve as interim commissioner until a new commissioner is named. Stahl, who retired in January, worked in state government for almost 35 years in the Bureau of Administration, Department of Corrections, and BHR.
