Driver-Ed Grads Asked to Schedule Permit Applications in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Young drivers who complete Driver Education in Sioux Falls and the surrounding area must schedule appointments if they plan to receive their driving permits at the Sioux Falls Exam Station.

Because summer is a busy time at the exam station and an active time for Driver Education classes, the Driver Licensing Program is requiring scheduled appointments for these students at the Sioux Falls station.

“This is an effort to ease congestion at the Sioux Falls station and to make the process more convenient for all of our applicants,’’ said Cindy Gerber, director of the Driver Licensing Program.

Driver Education students in the Aberdeen and Rapid City area are not being required to schedule appointments but are encouraged to make appointments to make the process of obtaining a permit as quick and easy as possible.

To schedule an appointment, an applicant may call 1-800-952-3696 or go online at http://dps.sd.gov/licensing/driver_licensing/.

Other applicants may make an appointment and avoid waiting in line by using the same contact information.

The Sioux Falls exam station recently relocated to a more convenient site near the intersection of Russell and Kiwanis. It is open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. most Saturdays.

All applicants for Driver Licensing services are reminded to check the required documents to obtain or renew a driver license or non-driver ID card. A list of required documents, locations of all driver licensing stations and hours and days of service at each station, may be found at http://dps.sd.gov/licensing/driver_licensing/.
