Friday, July 19, 11 a.m. CDT, Good Earth State Park near Sioux Falls – Gov. Dennis Daugaard will speak at the dedication of Good Earth State Park at Blood Run, South Dakota’s first new state park in 40 years. Other speakers include GFP Secretary Jeff Vonk, members of area tribes, SD Parks and Wildlife Foundation Past President Jeff Scherschligt and Iowa Governor Terry Branstad. Thursday, July 18, 7 p.m. CDT, Vermillion, Vermillion Public Library, 18 Church St. – DENR Geological Survey staff will give a presentation titled “South Dakota’s Ground Water.” The presentation will show why ground water is important to South Dakota and will briefly examine the major sources of ground water in the state. Some potential sources of ground-water contamination will be mentioned and an example of the vulnerability of one of the state’s major aquifers to contamination will be shown. Lastly, some results of testing from one of the best ambient ground-water quality monitoring networks in the country will be given.
