              Mellette County Fatal Crash

What: One-vehicle fatal crash

Where: US Highway 83, seven miles north of White River, SD

When:          Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, 7 p.m.

Driver: William L. Ziegelbein, 44, Lincoln, NE, fatal

Passenger: Colleen S. Ziegelbein, 43, Lincoln, NE, life-threatening injuries

Vehicle: 2008 Triumph Rocket motorcycle

WHITE RIVER, S.D. – A Nebraska man died in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 83 north of White River on Thursday, Aug. 8.

William L. Ziegelbein, 44, of Lincoln, Neb., was northbound on a 2008 Triumph Rocket motorcycle. The motorcycle left the road on a curve and entered the west ditch, striking a post before rolling. Ziegelbein and his passenger, Colleen S. Ziegelbein, 43, of Lincoln, were thrown from the motorcycle.

William Ziegelbein was dead at the scene. Colleen Ziegelbein was taken to the Rosebud, S.D., hospital and transferred to a Lincoln, Neb., hospital. Neither rider was wearing a helmet.

No further information is immediately available.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Mellette County Sheriff’s Office, White River Fire and Ambulance and Lincoln, Neb., Police Department assisted.
