State Prison Inmate Hospitalized Following Apparent Medical Related Fall

(Sioux Falls)- A state prison inmate is hospitalized on life support for injuries suffered during an apparent fall at the Jameson Annex to the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls September 21.

The 45-year old male inmate was found lying unconscious on the floor of a housing unit in the Jameson Annex just before 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Department of Corrections staff members assessed the injuries and began CPR. The inmate was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. He has head and neck injuries.

Based on witness statements, it appears that the inmate fell from the second floor of the housing unit to the first floor because of a medical condition. The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.

The name of the inmate is being withheld pending the notification of family members.
