              Meade County Fatal Crash

 

What: One-vehicle fatal crash

Where: New Underwood Road, one mile north of Hereford, SD

When: Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, 7:30 p.m.

 

Driver: William James Chasing Hawk, Sr, 27, Eagle Butte, SD, minor injuries

Passenger 1: Cherron Sitting Crow, 26, Rapid City, SD, fatal

Passenger 2: William Chasing Hawk, Jr, 18 months, Rapid City, SD, life-threatening injuries

Vehicle: 2003 Buick Park Avenue

 

HEREFORD, S.D. – A Rapid City woman died in a one-vehicle crash on the New Underwood Road about a mile north of Hereford on Monday, Sept. 30.

 

Cherron Sitting Crow, 26, was a passenger in a 2003 Buick Park Avenue driven south by William James Chasing Hawk, Sr., 27, of Eagle Butte, S.D. The vehicle veered off the right shoulder, returned to the roadway and traveled into the east ditch, where it rolled.

 

Sitting Crow was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. Her 18-month-old son received life-threatening injuries. Chasing Hawk received minor injuries.

 

None of the occupants were wearing seat belts. No further information is immediately available.

 

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Meade County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
