S.D., Nebraska Troopers Join for Highway 81 Enforcement Operation

YANKTON, S.D. – South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers made four drunk-driving arrests and two drug arrests during a joint enforcement operation with Nebraska State Patrol troopers on U.S. Highway 81 on both sides of the state border on Friday, Oct. 25.

The high-visibility operation was a day-long event for both states’ patrols. It focused on criminal interdiction, speeding, seatbelt use and drinking and driving. The goal was to encourage safe driving habits.

“It was a great opportunity to work with our fellow troopers from Nebraska to raise public awareness of the need for safe choices on the highways,’’ said Capt. Kevin Joffer, commander of the South Dakota Highway Patrol’s Sioux Falls district office.

In addition to the four DUI and two drug arrests, South Dakota troopers issued 14 citations for speeding, 12 for seatbelt violations and a limited number for other violations. In addition, troopers were involved in four motorist assists and stopped a total of 62 vehicles.

Nebraska State Patrol troopers worked the highways on their side of the states’ border.
