Former Penitentiary Warden Receives Janklow Law Officer of the Year Award
(SIOUX FALLS, S.D.)- Former South Dakota State Penitentiary Warden Doug Weber was honored this week for his distinguished career in corrections.
Weber received the 2nd Annual William J. Janklow Law Officer of the Year award during the Law Enforcement Appreciation and Children’s Charities Dinner in Sioux Falls Nov. 13. Former Gov. Janklow hired Weber as warden in 1996.
Weber retired in June after more than 32 years working in the corrections field. After starting as a correctional officer, he worked his way through the ranks and was promoted to training officer, major for special investigations, associate warden for security and warden. Weber was named chief warden overseeing all adult institutions in 1999. He also served as interim secretary of corrections in 2004-2005.
