BBQ Competition Class at South Dakota State Fairgrounds
HURON, S.D. – “The Art and Science of Competition BBQ,” a BBQ Competition Class, will be held 3-10 p.m. CDT on Friday, April 25, and 6:30 a.m.-2 p.m. CDT on Saturday, April 26, at the SD State Fairgrounds.
“With the popularity of competition BBQ growing in South Dakota, the SD BBQ Championships Committee is bringing a competition BBQ school to Huron,” said Candi Briley, State Fair Park marketing coordinator. The class will be held in the back room of the Beadle County Department of Health building (formerly the Beadle County Extension Office).
Here is your chance to step into the tent of a World BBQ Champion and learn all the secret mayonnaise rubs and handshakes to take you to the stage. Kelly Wertz from the World Champion BBQ team, 4 Legs Up BBQ, will be the instructor.
Wertz will walk participants through every step a contestant would face at a Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) contest from start to finish, including meat selection and prep, cooking and actual turn in boxes.
The cost for the class is $600 per person or $750 for a married couple. Teammates, friends and relatives are not eligible for the spouse fee. Payment for the class is due at time of registration. Class size is limited to the first 20 paid reservations. To register, visit www.4legsupbbq.com.
