Hanson County Fatal Crash
What: Motorcycle fatal crash
Where: South Dakota Highway 38, near Riverside Road

Driver 1: Sean Millard Baas, 19, Alexandria, S.D., serious non-life threatening injuries

MITCHELL, S.D. – A Woonsocket, S.D. woman died in a motorcycle crash near Mitchell on South Dakota Highway 38.
Jordan Dawn Hanson, 22 of Woonsocket, was a passenger riding on a 2000 Harley Davidson XL 1200C motorcycle. The motorcycle was being driven eastbound on South Dakota Highway 38 by Sean Millard Baas, 19 of Alexandria. Bass was slowing the motorcycle down to make a right hand turn on to Riverside Road, but lost control and began to slide in front of a 2015 Kenworth Construct 680 semi-truck driven by David Lee Vanzee, 62 of Huron, S.D. The semi-truck was northbound on Riverside Road and coming to a stop at the stop sign. Hanson was separated from the motorcycle and slid under the driver’s side front dual tires of the semi-trailer. Hanson sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Baas was also separated from the motorcycle and received serious but non-life threatening injuries. They were both wearing a helmet. Vanzee was wearing a seat-belt and was not injured in the crash.
No further information is immediately available.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Hanson County Sheriff’s Office, Alexandria Fire Department and Mitchell Police Department assisted.
