Asphalt Concrete Crack Seal Projects in the Mitchell Area
MITCHELL, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says crack sealing operations will take place on several highways in the Mitchell area of the state. The contractor will move from one project to the next in the following order:
- Interstate 90 – 22 miles, from Exit 296 (White Lake) to Exit 319 (Mt. Vernon). Exits 296 and 308 and the White Lake Rest Areas will be crack sealed. Work began June 10 and will take about two weeks to complete.
- Highway 45 – 10 miles, from Kimball north. Approximate time to complete this route is four days.
- Highway 47 – 13 miles, from the Nebraska border north to Burke. Approximate time to complete this route is three days.
- Highway 50 – 36 miles, from the Buffalo County Line south to Chamberlain and from Interstate 90 south to two miles east of Academy. Approximate time to complete this route is five days.
- Interstate 90 – Chamberlain Rest Area. Approximate time to complete this route is one day.
- Highway 34 – 21 miles, from Highway 45 east to Wessington Springs. Approximate time to complete this route is five days.
- Interstate 90 Loop – one mile, from Ohlman Street to Burr Street in the city of Mitchell. Approximate time to complete this route is two days.
- Highway 262 – 17 miles, from Interstate 90 southeast to Bridgewater. Approximate time to complete this route is four days.
On the state highway routes, traffic will be reduced to one lane and guided through the project with flaggers and a pilot car. A delay of up to 15 minutes can be expected while traveling through the work area during daytime hours.
On the Interstate routes, traffic will be reduced to one lane with lane closures.
The rest areas will be closed during the crack seal operations.
Highway Improvement, Inc. from Sioux Falls is the prime contractor on the $437,000 project.
