LETCHER, S.D. – A Letcher, S.D., woman died Wednesday in a two vehicle crash on S.D. Highway 37.

Shirley Jean Ruml, 83, of Letcher, was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan and exiting a private driveway from the east onto S.D. Highway 37, seven miles northeast of Letcher, She was attempting to cross the northbound lane and turn south. Timothy Gerald Klaas was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 northbound on S.D. Highway 37 and struck the driver’s side of Ruml’s vehicle as she was pulling onto the highway. Ruml sustained fatal injuries in the crash. She was not wearing a seatbelt. Klaas received minor injuries in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt.

No further information is immediately available.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Sanborn County Sheriff’s Office, Davison County Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell Ambulance and Letcher Fire and Rescue assisted.
