The South Dakota Highway Patrol says Restad, 69, was traveling south on U.S. Highway 85 when he failed to negotiate a left hand turn in the roadway. The Patrol says Restad's 2004 Honda VTX1300 went off the roadway and into the west ditch. The motorcycle climbed a rock embankment, collided with a road sign and came to a final rest at the bottom of the embankment in the west ditch.
