Wildland Fire Deputy Director Retires


RAPID CITY, S.D. – The deputy division director for the South Dakota Department of Agriculture’s Wildland Fire Division is retiring. Steve Hasenohrl leaves the fire service June 8, after a successful 42-year career.

 

“Steve has been a great leader and committed the last 10 years of his career to developing a strong and efficient wildland fire agency for the state and region,” said Jay Esperance, South Dakota Wildland Fire division director. “His accomplishments speak to his dedication to the people of South Dakota.”

 

A community celebration and retirement party honoring Hasenohrl will be held Friday, June 10, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Old Storybook Island Park Shelter (2911 Canyon Lake Drive) in Rapid City. The event is a potluck picnic where the main course will be provided and paid for by donations accepted at the picnic. Please bring a side dish or a dessert to share. After retirement, Steve and his wife Judy will remain in South Dakota.
