Names Released In Potter County Fatal Crash
What: Motorcycle-vehicle crash
Where: U.S. Highway 212, mile marker 230, six miles east of Gettysburg
When: 9:59 p.m., Sunday, July 24, 2016
Driver No. 1: Luke Kleinlein, 23, Brookings, S.D., Fatal Injuries
Vehicle: 1983 Honda VF1100C Motorcycle
Driver No. 2: Todd Oster, 59, Gettysburg, S.D., No Injuries
Vehicle: 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup
GETTYSBURG, S.D. – Luke Kleinlein, 23, of Brookings, has been identified as the person who died in a motorcycle-pickup truck crash that occurred Sunday night east of Gettysburg.
Kleinlein was driving a 1983 Honda VF1100C motorcycle westbound on U.S. Highway 212 near the junction of 316th Avenue. A 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was eastbound on U.S. Highway 212 and attempted to turn north towards 316th Avenue. The pickup collided with the motorcycle.
Kleinlein was thrown from the motorcycle. He later died of his injuries.
Todd Oster, 59, Gettysburg, was the pickup driver. He was not injured.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Potter County Sheriff’s Office and Gettysburg Ambulance.
