PIEDMONT, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says work will begin in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 between Exit 40 (Tilford) and Exit 44 (Piedmont), beginning on Monday, Oct. 17.
The contractor will first close the eastbound passing lane for pavement repairs and then switch traffic to complete the same work in the driving lane.
The repairs include removing loose or broken concrete at the joints and replacing those areas with asphalt concrete.
The purpose of the project is to repair broken concrete joints in preparation for two-way traffic in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 for the reconstruction of the westbound lanes set to begin in March 2017.
Motorists are asked to slow down through the work zone and be prepared for suddenly slowing, merging and stopped traffic, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.
J.V. Bailey Company, Inc. of Rapid City is the prime contractor on this $115,085 project.
The overall completion date for the project is Nov. 4, 2016.
