Codington County Vehicle-Pedestrian Fatal Collision Update

 

What:     Vehicle-Pedestrian Fatal

Where:   U.S. Highway 212, mile marker 374

                Two miles west of Watertown

When:     9:42 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017

 

Driver: Todd Good, 52, Watertown, S.D., No Injuries

Vehicle: 2012 Ford F-350 Pickup

 

Pedestrian: Whitney Hopkins, 28, Waubay, S.D., Fatal

 

WATERTOWN, S.D.  – A  Waubay woman has been identified as the person who was struck by a pickup and killed Thursday night while she was walking along U.S. Highway 212 west of Watertown.

  

A 2012 Ford F-350 pickup was eastbound in the passing lane of U.S. Highway 212 when the driver saw something on the shoulder of the road. He applied his brakes, but hit Whitney Hopkins, 28, who had entered the roadway. The pedestrian was later pronounced dead at the Watertown hospital.

 

Charges are not pending against the driver, Todd Good, 52, of Watertown.

 

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Codington County Sheriff’s Office, Watertown Police Department and Watertown Ambulance Service.

 

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
