Names Released in Jones County Fatal Crash
What: Two-Vehicle Crash
Where: Interstate 90 mile marker 178
14 miles west of Murdo, S.D.
When: 11:25 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017
Driver No. 1: Terry Bodden, 53, Scotland, S.D., No injuries
Vehicle: 2013 Freightliner semi-tractor and trailer
Driver No. 2: Terrie Roede, 64, Pierre, S.D., Fatal Injuries
Passenger: Randy Roede, 59, Pierre, S.D., Fatal Injuries
Vehicle: 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup
MURDO, S.D. – A Pierre husband and wife have been identified as the two individuals who died Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash west of Murdo.
A 2013 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer was eastbound on Interstate 90 when it entered the median and went into the westbound lanes of Interstate 90. A 2017 Dodge Ram pickup was westbound and struck the side of the Freightliner’s trailer.
Both the Freightliner and Dodge Ram entered the north ditch. The pickup and trailer both caught fire.
Terrie Roede, 64, who was the driver of the pickup and the passenger, Randy Roede, 59, both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Terry Bodden, 53, of Scotland was the driver of the semi. He was not injured.
All three individuals were wearing seat belts.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Jones County Sheriff, Murdo Fire Department, Kadoka Fire Department, Midland Fire Department and Jones County Ambulance.
The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
