State Prison Inmate Manuel Torres Dies

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- A state prison inmate has died from an apparent suicide.

Manuel Torres, age 26, was found unresponsive in his cell at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls Feb. 22. He was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital where he was pronounced dead later that evening.

Torres was sentenced in 2013 from Minnehaha County to 25 years in prison with 10 years suspended for a first-degree robbery conviction and 25 years with 10 years suspended for possession of a weapon by an inmate.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the death. An autopsy is being conducted.
