Names Released in Pennington County Fatal Crash

 

What:    Motorcycle-Semi-truck crash

Where:  Highway 1416 and South Ellsworth Road

               Box Elder, S.D.

When:   2:31 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018

 

Driver No 1: James Bradley, 54, Parker, AZ, Fatal Injuries

Passenger: Deanna Bradley, 45, Parker, AZ, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2005 Harley Davidson DXI

 

Driver No. 2: Greg Bunch, 54, San Diego, CA, Minor Injuries

Passenger: Christina Logan Bettencourt, 30, San Diego, CA, Minor Injuries

Vehicle: 2003 BTM Harley Davidson

 

Driver No 3: Male (Invoked Marsy’s Law)

Vehicle: 2018 Freightliner Semi Truck

 

 

BOX ELDER, S.D. – Two people from Arizona have been identified as those killed Thursday afternoon in a crash involving two motorcycles and a semi-truck in Box Elder.

 

Two other people were injured in the crash.

 

Two Harley Davidson motorcycles were westbound on Highway 1416 when they failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection with South Ellsworth  Road. The two motorcycles collided with a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck pulling triple trailers that was turning onto Highway 1416 from Box Elder Road.

 

The occupants of one motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as the driver, James Bradley, 54, and the passenger, Deanna Bradley, 45, both of Parker, AZ. Both were wearing helmets.

 

Both occupants of the other motorcycle sustained minor injuries. They were the driver, 54-year-old Greg Bunch, and 30-year-old Christina Logan Bettencourt, both of San Diego, CA. She was transported to a Rapid City hospital. Neither was wearing a helmet.

 

The semi-truck driver was not injured.

 

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

 

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
